The first generation of the Huawei Watch is awesome. Not only does it have a beautiful design, but the performance is also outstanding. Now there is a successor released to the marked, called the Huawei Watch 2. Judging by the name, it sounds like it would inherit essential elements of the previous generation. We’ll see what it brings to the table.
The design is quite appealing although you may not be a fan of the bezel. It measures 1.8 inches diagonally. Meanwhile, the screen is around 1.2 inches wide. What does it mean? It means that the bezel takes quite a lot of space. Instead of giving emphasis to the display, this composition makes the watch look a bit outdated and bulky. Many newest Smartwatches have significantly reduced their bezels. But if you prefer bulky designs, this will definitely ignite your interest. There are 4 pins attached to the bottom of the device. Together they create a unique charging mechanism. However, for the sake of simplicity, we think wireless charging is the better idea.
The Huawei Watch 2 comes with a 1.2-inch 390×390 AMOLED display. With this on board, no wonder the image quality is top notch. The pixel density is pretty high at around 326ppi. This will create detailed images. Text also becomes easier to read. Even when you put your eyes closer to the screen, there isn’t any noticeably pixelation. As far as colors are concerned, they are vibrant. It is expected from this type of display. The bezel can come off annoying at times due to how thick it is. Had it been slightly thinner, it would be more pleasant to look at.
The device runs on Android Wear 2.0. Compared to the previous version, this one is actually a big departure since the primary focus is on the apps. Try to swipe up from the bottom up, the display will show you notifications. Do a quick swipe from the opposite direction, it will bring up Quick Settings. Another addition is Google Assistant. It is helpful especially for those who always have questions about directions and others. To make use of it, all you have to do is hold the top button for a while. LTE is no longer supported by the new device, but there is Wi-Fi just in case you want to stream your favorite music. If it wasn’t practical enough, we suggest you pre-load it with music. The most recommended source is Google Play Music. (Also read: Garmin Fenix 5X)
While the multimedia experience is impressive, Huawei put much thought into improving the fitness capabilities of this device. You may not find the design stylish, but it serves its purpose as a fitness tracker. Doing vigorous exercise can easily move a Smartwatch if it’s too light. Thankfully, Huawei Watch 2 is quite bulky. The large size can provide a better grip, making it ideal for outdoor use. Don’t be afraid of getting caught in the rain. The Watch 2 is IP68 certified, meaning that it can deal with continuous immersion underwater. It can survive up to 1.5 meters deep for around 30 minutes. To enable the fitness menu, just use one of the buttons. It would bring up selections like treadmill, cardio, run, and many others. The tracking features are also comprehensive. You can measure calories, steps, heart rate, etc.
