We’ve seen many premium tablets so far. Let’s see what the Huawei MediaPad M3 brings to the table. Broadly speaking, this is a wonderful tablet with a well-crafted design and great features.
Unibody designs have been around for quite a while. This tablet is unibody, giving it a sleek appearance. The interesting part is that it has become the norm in premium tablets. Although it is technically a tablet, it is very slim and easy to operate with one hand. It may not be the slimmest, but quite comparable to other premium offerings like the Nexus 7. On the right side, you can find the volume and power buttons. They feel firm and distinguishable from the surroundings.
Meanwhile, the headphone jack can be found on top along with one of the two speakers. Quality-wise, the speakers are incredible as they produce loud and crisp sound. They are a perfect addition to a device meant for media consumption. It also includes a fingerprint scanner, a feature that has been growing in popularity recently. It has a 2560×1440 IPS LCD display which produces vibrant colors and has good outdoor visibility.
The Huawei MediaPad M3 is powered by a Huawei Kirin 950. It is actually a powerhouse, which is quite unexpected because many tablets tend to have average features to keep prices low. It can handle multitasking and various apps. To boost the performance, 4GB of RAM is added to accompany the fast processor. This combination allows the tablet to handle many apps in the background. You can even play games with heavy graphics as long as the settings are well-adjusted. In other words, the performance is on par with flagship devices. Battery life is another area the tablet excels at. With a 5100mAh battery, it can get you through a whole day. It can last longer under moderate usage. Keep in mind that it already runs on the newest Android, so you can take advantage of the Doze feature which can conserve the battery significantly.
The user interface offers a new experience. If you have been used to using MIUI, you will be able to tell the difference. While it is possible to add so many screens, it still feels different. Menus have a white background. The notification shade is divided into 2 panes, which is reminiscent of the Apple’s notification center. Even the looks of the apps are familiar. They are squared off like those on iOS. Well, if you are not a fan, the Play Store has many launchers to choose from. Just install your favorite if the original one isn’t appealing enough. The Huawei MediaPad M3 comes with a 8-megapixel rear camera. The front one has the same resolution. Many of us don’t expect a top-of-the-line camera in a tablet. Although the hardware is fantastic, the camera quality leaves much to be desired. It produces average photos indoors and outdoors. A camera usually does better when there is much light around. It is the case with M3, but the shots still lack sharpness even when you take it outdoors. This tablet only costs $299, very reasonably priced if you ask. All things considered, the Huawei MediaPad M3 is value for money.
